Founded in 2018 in Emsworth, Hampshire, we’ve grown from a small group of volunteers into a regionally recognised organisation inspiring change along the South Coast of England and beyond.
At Final Straw Foundation, we don't just protect our coastlines,we lead the charge in restoring, protecting, and educating communities across the Solent. Driven daily by a passionate network of volunteers, we operate at the cutting edge of marine conservation, turning community action into lasting environmental recovery.
What We Do: Leading Marine Restoration Across the Solent
Pioneering Citizen Science Water Testing: We host a first-of-its-kind, daily volunteer-led water testing program, delivering crucial real-time data on water quality to hold polluters accountable and safeguard our coastal ecosystems.
Keystone Species Restoration: We are at the absolute forefront of restoring vital Solent marine habitats, building resilient environments with like-minded coastal communities where native oysters and protected seahorses can return and thrive.
River & Beach Cleans: Our volunteer teams take daily action on the frontlines, removing marine debris and plastic pollution from our rivers, estuaries, and beaches before it reaches the open ocean.
Closing the Plastic Loop: We don't just pick up waste; we integrate recovered marine plastics directly into the circular economy, transforming ocean pollution into recycled, long-term resources.
Empowering Through Education: From primary school classrooms to regional STEM fairs, we educate and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards through our incredible workshops, assemblies and beach school sessions.
Why It Matters
The Solent is one of the UK's most unique marine environments, but it faces unprecedented pressure from pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Final Straw bridges the gap between grassroots community action and large-scale ecological recovery, proving that when volunteers lead, nature responds and change is possible.
